A blog carnival is a post in a blog that summarizes a collection of articles form many different blogs on a specific topic. As defined in Wikipedia, it is a type of blog event. It is similar to a magazine, in that it is dedicated to a particular topic, and is published on a regular schedule, often weekly or monthly. Each edition of a blog carnival is in the form of a blog article that contains permalinks links to other blog articles on the particular topic.

As you see, a blog carnival is an idea and style of blog contents. A carnival post should collect some of the best content on a topic. You may write a new post that summarize several of previous posts of your own, or from other blogs, that’s a kind of carnival. You can have a carnival site on a topic of your interest, or a category dedicated to carnival post periodically.

What’s good with carnivals? Because carnival posts are usually a summary of a topic with several useful resource links, they are considered info rich and are more likely to be bookmarked and quoted, thus they have better marketing opportunities.

Test it yourself, write 2 posts of the same topic, one is a regular article, the other is well organized carnival article, submit both to digg, you’ll certainly get more points on the carnival one.

Carnival posts might be easier to write, since you don’t have to come out the original ideas, all you need to do is to research the topic, collect the information, and summarize them together.

Another carnival marketing approach is to submit your blog posts to carnival list sites such as blogcarnical.com. You don’t have to submit a carnival post but just share a article that may be included in a carnival there.
