Gravatar Is Cute

A gravatar, or globally recognized avatar, is a little cute 80×80 pixel icon chosen by someone as his or her image presentation on the net. It can be a person’s picture or an image of anything.

Anyone can create a gravatar at www.gravatar.com which hosts your avatar as a URL from its site. I don’t have my own gravatar, but there are many avatar fans who’d love to see their gravatars shown on your blog. If your blog is configured to display commenter’s gravatars on the comments, they are more likely to leave comments on your blog.

It’s easy to turn on gravatar display in WordPress blog. You can either customize the source code of the theme by fallowing the instruction “Using Gravatars” or simply implement one of the gravatar plugins.

With the plugin or customized code, when someone makes a comment in your post, WordPress will search and retrieve this person’s gravatar from the gravatar repository server using this person’s email address which is required for leaving comments in WP. On the gravatar repository server each gravatar is identified by a unique email address.
