WordPress, along with many other blogware platforms, have chosen PHP to code the system. PHP is a widely-used general-purpose scripting language that is especially suited for Web development and can be embedded into HTML.

It’s interesting to know that PHP stands for “PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor”. This confuses many people because the first word of the acronym is the acronym. This type of acronym is called a recursive acronym.

Starting with the version of PHP 4, PHPuses the Zend engine under the hood. Zend Technologies Ltd. based in Cupertino, CA is the driven force of PHP development. That’s why Zend calls itself “The PHP Company”.
