Add a Contact Form to WordPress Blog Site by Secure Form Mailer Plugin

I come across many blogs that have no contact info. some blogs just say, “To contact me, put message to comment in any posts”. That sounds too casual. It may be OK for personal blogs, but for professional blogs toward profiting, a proper communication is a must. At least I am expecting an email address displayed in the footer.

But no one wants to display email address on the website because spam marketers will send spam crawler robots to crawl your site to harvest your email addresses to their spam lists. Then your email box will get flooded with tons of spam emails for sure. the best way for contact is using a web-based contact form.

By some research I found Secure Form Mailer Plugin created Dagon design, which meets all my needs. It takes only couple of minutes to set it up. After activated this plugin, you see 2 sub-menu items under the Options tab in admin panel: DDFM-Main and DDFM1. The DDFM-Main is the plugin’s admin area, and DDFM1 is the first mail form I can use.

To create my Contact form, I created a page named “Contact”, and add <!– ddfm1 –> to the Code (not the Visual editor), and the Contact URL to DDFM1’s configuration field, that’s it. For advanced features, the download has details, no need for me to repeat here.

This plug gives 5 me features that I really like, and I can’t find all from other plugins:

1. A build-in image verification system to stop spam. Without it, a spam software can get to the contact page, fill in the form, and flood send spam emails to you. But it is not smart enough to read the randomly displayed image for verification.

2 . The protection against email header injection is a important security feature.

3. Support for multiple instances - In my blog I created to mail forms, one for general contact, the other for “Submit a Tip”. That’s very handy.

4. Auto reply feature - It allowed me to setup auto reply to acknowledge receival of tip submission. A good communication feature.

5. File attachment - I don’t use it right now, but good to know it’s available.
